This guide will explain how to setup the TP Link wifi-to-ethernet adapter.
There are several models of TP Link that we may provide or recommend, but they should all have the same or very similar setup steps.
Also included in the box is a short and useful manual.
Part 1: Connecting the Adapter to the BioCharger
The BioCharger should be powered off. Plug the TP Link adapter into your wall outlet, then insert one end of an ethernet cable into the ethernet port on the TP Link, and the other end into the ethernet port on the back of the BioCharger.
After plugging in the TP Link, you should see one or more lights activate on the front panel. Give it a minute to start up.
Don't switch on the BioCharger yet.
Part 2: Configuring the Adapter
After giving the TP Link a minute to start up, proceed to your computer or phone and look for a network named "TP-Link_Extender" in your list of available wifi networks. Connect to that network - it does not require a password and should automatically connect.
Next, open a web browser and enter the following IP address: 192.168.0.254
This should bring you to a TP Link setup page which prompts you to create a password. Create a password and remember it, because we'll be using it later.
Next you'll select your home or business wifi network. It will first scan for a 2.4GHz network, and then a 5GHz network. If you have both, feel free to connect both. Otherwise you can 'Skip' the channel you're not using.
After selecting your network, it will prompt for the wifi password.
Next it will ask us to confirm the extended network names. We'll be disabling the extended networks shortly, so just leave the default settings and click Next.
This following page is just indicating the optimal placement relative to your router if the device was being used as a wifi extender. It's not in this case, so don't worry about it and just hit Done!
On the next page, go ahead and check "I have connected to the extended network" and "Finish".
Now if you look at your available wifi networks, you should now see one or two wifi networks with the naming format [Your Wifi Name]_EXT, as shown below. In the last section we'll disable these extended networks. But first let's go ahead and bring the BioCharger online.
After you hit Finish, it will load the following page, which you can close, or just leave the tab open to re-use later.
Now you can power on the BioCharger. Give it 2-3 minutes to fully start up. If you then check your myCloud account, you should see the 'Connected' status in the upper right corner. You can also tap on the green circle in the upper-right corner of the BioCharger screen, which should confirm "Internet Available".
At this point we're done as far as the BioCharger is concerned, but in this last section we'll go ahead and disable the adapter's extended networks, as we're using the adapter for its wifi-to-ethernet conversion functionality only.
Part 3: Disabling the extended networks
Finally, we'll want to turn off the extended wifi networks that are enabled by default, because there's no need to have an extra wifi network in the room.
To do this, we'll find the adapter's new IP address, which it acquired after connecting to your network, and log in with the password you created earlier.
To find the IP you'll need to download and install
"Advanced IP Scanner" for Windows: https://www.advanced-ip-scanner.com/
or "Angry IP Scanner" for Mac: https://angryip.org/
Advanced IP Scanner:
Angry IP Scanner:
Instructions for Mac Users:
If you're on a Mac, you'll need to know whether your Macbook has an Apple Silicon or Intel chip to download the correct version of Angry IP. To find this, click the Apple in the upper left corner and click on 'About This Mac'. Look for the line that says 'Chip' or 'Processor'. It should indicate whether you have an Apple or Intel chip.
After launching Angry IP Scanner on your Macbook for the first time, you'll likely need to go to your System Settings > Privacy & Security to Allow the app, as it was installed outside the App Store.
With either Advanced IP Scanner or Angry IP Scanner, proceed to scan your network for IPs with the button that has a green 'Play' triangle.
In the results that show up, sometimes the adapter is labeled with "TP Link Extender" and sometimes it isn't labeled at all. Either way it should have a green dot indicating it's Online/Broadcasting.
If you're having trouble locating the IP for the adapter, give us a call!
If it's unlabeled, you can test it out in the browser by entering the IP in the address bar and see if it loads a TP Link login page:
Once you find the correct IP, login with the password you created earlier. You can ignore the red text declaring that you're already logged in, if you see that.
Then navigate to 'Wireless' at the top
And uncheck the boxes next to 'Extended 2.4GHz' and 'Extended 5GHz'. We want both to be unchecked and greyed-out. Click 'Save' at the bottom.
It will then nervously second-guess your decision, but you will confidently click Continue. The [Your Wifi]_EXT networks should now be gone, and the BioCharger should remain online.
