How to connect the BioCharger to a Mobile Hotspot

Using a hotspot to connect the BioCharger to the internet is the least stable and reliable method, and therefore not recommended. Sometimes however it's the only option. Here's how to make it happen:

First, activate your mobile hotspot.

Ensure the USB wifi adapter is inserted in the front panel. Turn off the BioCharger and let it fully shut down. Then power back on.

With iPhone hotspot:

Find the name of the iPhone, located under Settings > General > About.
It will say Name (this = the hotspot SSID).

To find the password go to Settings, then Personal Hotspot. Under "Allow Others to Join" you'll see Wi-Fi Password. That is the password you will use.

With Android hotspot:

  1. Open the Settings app on your phone.
  2. Tap the Network & internet option.
  3. Select Hotspot & tethering.
  4. Tap on Wi-Fi hotspot.
  5. This page has options for turning the hotspot feature on and off. Additionally, you can change the network name, security type, password, and more.

You will want to use a separate device for the hotspot setup procedure (e.g. laptop, tablet, another phone, etc).

On that separate device check the available wifi networks for a network named biocharger_default and connect with the password apassword

(Note: if biocharger_default does not appear, skip to Step 11 and Restore Defaults. If it still doesn't appear, try fully powering the BioCharger Off and back On. It should appear at that point).

3. Once your laptop is connected to the biocharger_default network, open a web browser (e.g. Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Brave)

4. In the browser address bar type 192.168.4.1 and press the enter key

5. This should take you to a web page that mirrors the main menu screen of your BioCharger NG

6. Click on the Setup button

7. Click on WiFi Settings

Type in your WiFi SSID (network name) and password. Both the SSID and password are case sensitive. If your SSID has any spaces in the name or any special characters, you will need to enter a backslash \ before each special character (including spaces).

9. Once your SSID and password are typed in, click the Save button. It will look like nothing happens! However, if successful, the BioCharger NG screen will go black and reboot within ~20 seconds. If unsuccessful, it will reboot after a longer time, ~40-60 seconds.

If it never reboots at all after clicking Save, then your personal device likely has the wifi 'auto-join' feature enabled, and switched back over to your normal wifi network before you hit Save. In this case, reconnect to biocharger_default and hit Save again.

10. After the BioCharger NG reboots, you should be connected to your WiFi network. To confirm this, use your stylus to tap the green circle in the upper right corner of your BioCharger touch screen. It will return the status 'Internet Available' or 'Internet Unavailable'.

We've noticed with hotspots specifically that it can take up to 10 minutes for the status to change to 'Connected' / 'Internet Available', though typically it's much quicker.

The other way to confirm is to log into your myCloud account and check the upper right corner for the status Connected in green. If you see the status Waiting... in red, the BioCharger is not connected to the internet.

It can take a minute for myCloud to update the status after connecting - try refreshing the page if you don't see the status change to Connected.
